Larimar rings, pendant and earrings in Sterling Silver. Larimar is known for its striking blue color with white or light blue marbling patterns reminiscent of the Caribbean Sea.

The name “Larimar” is a combination of the words “Lari” from Larissa and “mar” which means sea in Spanish. Larissa is the daughter of Miguel Mendez, who rediscovered this stone in 1974. Other names for Larimar include Atlantis Stone, due to its connection with the Lost Continent of Atlantis. This connection is based on Edgar Cayce’s prediction of a blue stone in the Caribbean. Another name, Dolphin Stone, comes from dolphins being associated with the lost continent.

What Color is Larimar?
With colors ranging from white to various shades of blue, pectolite from the Dominican Republic is the loveliest in the world. Traces of copper contribute to this blue coloration. The finest stones are dark blue and translucent. However, sky-blue specimens with cloud-like patterns are also highly prized.
How was Larimar discovered?
In 1957, the inhabitants of a small fishing village were finding fragments of a blue gemstone, we now know as larimar, washing up on the local beach.
It was believed that the larimar stones came from the sea. It took another 20 years for anyone to be interested enough to investigate this further.
As people became aware of the beauty of Larimar and started using it, the villagers set out to find the origins. They followed the river upstream for a few days. Soon it was crafted into pendants, earrings and rings.
