Dia de Muertos

Spectral Stone will be at Dia de Muertos Oct. 31st in Fishers, IN at the Municipal Center> hope to see you! The event runs from the 31st to Nov. 2nd.

The Day of the Dead is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2. However, other days, such as October 31 or November 6, may be included depending on the locality. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died.

  • Late October (October 28–31): Preparations begin. Specific days are often dedicated to different groups, such as those who died tragically (October 28) or children who passed away (October 30–31).
  • November 1 (Día de los Angelitos / All Saints’ Day): Honors infants and children who have passed away.
  • November 2 (All Souls’ Day): Honors deceased adults

The Ofrenda (Altar): Families build private shrines or altars decorated with photographs of the departed, candles, papel picado (perforated paper), and cempasúchil (marigold) flowers. The scent is believed to guide returning souls.

Food and Drink: Altars and graves are left with favorite foods, drinks, and traditional pan de muerto (sweet bread topped with bone-shaped dough).

Symbols: Calaveras (skulls), sugar skulls, and La Catrina represent the acceptance of death as a natural, joyful continuation of life. They do not see it as an end.

Local Events: Communities host parades, music, and public displays. These events include nearby celebrations like the annual Día de los Muertos festival at the Eiteljorg Museum on October 24.
