Blue Chalcedony with Silver Sand Dollar
The name chalcedony comes from the ancient Greek town of Chalcedon in modern day Turkey. We do not know why this gemstone was named after this town as it was never mined locally or specifically traded there. It is possible that the blue seas of the nearby Sea of Marmara reminded people of the gemstone’s color.
